Geneva’s tips
Bicycle
Geneva is great to bike! There are a lot of places (shop, workshop) to repair bikes such as :
- Pavillon Cayla : repair permanence and autorepair mostly during summer from tuesday until friday from 3 to 7 pm.
- Rustine, autorepair workshop on wednesday from 4 to 8 pm.
- Péclôt 13 : repair permanence and autorepair, bike sale, etc. open from monday to friday from 1 to 7 pm and saturday from 1 to 6 pm.
If you’re looking for bike parts to fix your own bike, you can go to the bike pound. It’s open on tuesday and wednesday from 10 am to 6.30 pm.
Objects and Tools
Sometimes, you only need something occasionally (a tool to build a piece of furniture, a speaker for a party, etc.). La Ciguë collaborates with two organisations that offer affordable and environmentally friendly alternatives to buying new items. You can go directly to either organisation and mention that you are a La Ciguë cooperative member to benefit from their services.
Le Grand Atelier is a workshop equipped for woodworking, metalworking and bicycle repairs. With a La Ciguë membership, you can use the workshop and its machinery with guidance from volunteers. An hourly fee applies.
La Manivelle is a library of things where you can borrow all kinds of objects for free or at very low cost! All you need to do when borrowing an item is show proof (your rental agreement) that you are a La Ciguë cooperative member. You can borrow up to 20 items at the same time.
Furniture
There are several good ways to find affordable, or even free, furniture:
La Ciguë Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/314360862408381/
The website: www.keepinuse.ch
Second-hand shops: La Renfile, Emmaüs, the Salvation Army, etc.
Avoid picking up furniture from the street because of the risk of bringing bedbugs into your home!
