Making Ciguë Come to Life”

The Ciguë project relies on the participation of cooperators: you can get involved at three levels (the cooperative; your building/neighborhood; your shared housing). This page presents how you can get concretely involved in current projects or start new ones!

1. Getting Involved at the Cooperative Level

The committees and working groups allow you to participate in different Ciguë projects, with hands-on work and discussions on specific topics. The level of commitment depends on each committee and the ongoing projects. For example, the events committee will be more active between May and September, organizing various events!

The Board of Directors (CA) is perfect if you want to contribute your overarching thoughts on Ciguë (long-term development, governance, building construction, cooperative policy, etc.). It meets once a month and develops key areas for Ciguë’s growth (from new construction projects to conflict management procedures).

General Assemblies (AG) are the solution if you want to participate in Ciguë’s decision-making for a limited time. Between 3 and 4 AGs are held each year, each lasting 2 to 3 hours depending on the topics. Your presence is crucial to ensure good representation of decisions and to meet the quorum (without which the AG cannot take place!).

2. Life in the Neighborhood or Building

Local Assemblies (AL): Each building and some neighborhoods form ALs to create bonds at this level. ALs are represented by delegates or coordinators (their number varies depending on the size of the AL). The role of delegates is to organize the communal life of the AL (parties, meetings, projects) and represent the residents at the Delegate Council.

You can apply for the position of delegate (with a reimbursement of CHF 100.-/month). Elections are held once a year at an AL meeting. Contact the delegate(s) or the internal team (internes@cigue.ch) to run for the position.

If you want to organize an event (meals, film screenings, DIY workshops, game nights, sports, etc.) with your neighbors, write to your delegate. An annual budget of CHF 400.- per AL is allocated by Ciguë!

3. Shared Housing, the Heart of Ciguë

Getting involved in your shared housing is already a great start. You can regularly organize meetings with your housemates to manage communal life, resolve tensions, and plan events together!

Allocations are a key moment in the life of a shared housing and Ciguë. We have created a small guide that addresses inclusivity issues and different ways to organize the process. You can read it with your housemates and use it as inspiration.
